From South Africa to Suffolk, Zukie Tandathu has lived a fascinating life and has completed one of his biggest challenges; The Wainwright’s Coast to Coast.

It is officially 186 miles long, but Zukie’s total came to 192 miles after a couple of detours on the route. The trail starts in the Lake District and finishes at Robin Hoods Bay on the East coast of England. Initially designed by Alfred Wainwright in 1973, the route goes through three national parks in Northern England: The Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Zukie excelled at this challenge and completed it in a moving time of 70 hours and 59 minutes over six days.

“Part of my plan was to try and cover the trail within five days,” he said.

“I have off about five days, so I thought, okay, I think I could do up to 50 miles a day here. And I also did have a couple of extra days in the bank, just in case things didn’t go quite right.”

“I started on a Tuesday and thought I could finish it by Friday, but giving myself the extra couple of days. After experiencing the brutal weather going across the Lake District for the first 24 hours, I thought, I think I might need a rest now.
