The winter season is here and for most of us, it means getting up in the dark and finally, when we get to go home from work it’s dark too. A lot of the time It’s probably going to be cold, wet, windy and miserable outside making it harder to stay motivated and get out the door for a run.

Here are some of my top tips to help beat the winter blues and keep yourself ticking over well through the winter months.

SAD (Seasonal Anxiety Disorder)

Seasonal anxiety disorder is sometimes known as winter depression as it comes and goes in a seasonal pattern. Not everyone suffers from it but many of us will encounter a mild form better known as “the winter blues” at some point during the winter months, so here’s a bit of advice on how to help manage it:

Keep active.

Research has shown that a walk in the middle of the day could be as helpful as light treatment for coping with the winter blues.

Get outside more.

Go outdoors in natural daylight as much as possible, especially at midday and on brighter days sit near windows whenever you can.
