Over 500,000 people visit Snowdonia every year. Those who want to challenge themselves to walk the Llanberis path to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) or those looking for a new challenge within the magnificent views of the national park flock here year after year.

However, if you’re looking for something different in the area, you can try out these routes and push yourself off the beaten path.

Welsh 3000’s

This classic route is approximately 50 km long and connects 15 peaks, each over 3000ft (914m)—most people who take it on attempt to complete it in under 24 hours. The route will take you up scrambling climbs and across ridges and is definitely one of the harder challenges on this list. The trail contains some obstacles, such as outcroppings and rocks, which could cause injury, but the route isn’t remote and is easy to get to in an emergency.

Cnicht – The Welsh Matterhorn

From afar, the Cnicht’s pyramid-like peak appearance resembles a miniature Matterhorn. However, the Cnicht itself is a bit of an imposter. Far from being an isolated peak, it is actually the high point of an elevated ridge rising from a boggy tableland.
