“The eternal drive to find the next high” Interview with Adventurer Jamie Ramsay

“I don’t do any of this for recognition; I simply do it because I love adventuring.”

Jamie Ramsey is an endurance adventurer who has conquered the world.

Back in 2004, a night in a pub ignited a spark inside him when one of his friends turned to him and said: “Let’s do a marathon”. On completing the Stockholm marathon, Jamie thought, “Well, that’s done. I am not planning on doing that again.” But it was just the beginning.

He completed a marathon two years later and this is when he got ‘addicted to the feeling of completion’ and began doing half-Iron Man events and 10k swims. At this point in his life, Ramsey was stuck in a job he had no passion for and in a cycle of working, obsessing in the gym, and spending time in the pub.

“It was a weird combination of things that didn’t go well together,” he said.

“It didn’t leave me balanced mentally, and I wasn’t very happy. I wanted to do one big event in 2013. I signed up for the Jungle Marathon in Vietnam, which was 240km long over six days, carrying all your kit through the jungle.”
