Shropshire Trails Festival Race Report

...full of praise for our stunning landscapes.

Ultrarunner Magazine caught up with Shropshire Trails Festival Race Organiser Grant Wilson to find out more about this inspiring race.

The feedback from the runners and walkers has been unequivocally positive and of course, so much of this is down to the effort of our wonderful supporters so thank you so much for all you did. Many of the runners were new to the area and were full of praise for our stunning landscapes.

“Our food offer came in for particular praise as we showcased our delicious local produce. Shropshire fidget pies, home-made beef stew and bara brith, sausages and cheese were all on the menu.

Although there were a lot of DNS, we were still really happy with the numbers and we aim to grow the event for next year. Pleasingly, there were only 24 retirees and no injuries beyond the usual crop of blisters, scratches and stings.”

The fastest finishers in the Half-Mammothon were Charlotte Broadchurch of Ludlow Runners and Ewein Howes who crossed the line together in a time of 2 hours 22 minutes.

The Mammothon was won by Ollie Perratt, also a member of Ludlow Runners, in the outstanding time of 3 hours 26 minutes. In doing so, he beat the course record by over an hour.  Gemma Mallett of Leominster was the first female finisher in 5 hours 7 minutes.

“The SW80K also saw a new course record, when Drew Sambridge of Stratford-Upon-Avon completed a beautifully controlled run in the time of 9 hours 47 minutes. Ludlow Runners saw more success, when Amy Fulford and Fern Cotterill shared the first Female trophy with a time of 10 hours 36 minutes.”
