Yesterday evening, Studio 99 (Beckham, Save Our Squad) and Prime Video hosted the premiere of the highly anticipated documentary film Ronnie O’Sullivan: The Edge of Everything, with famous faces from the worlds of sport, music and entertainment walking a snooker-themed ‘green carpet’.
Ronnie O’Sullivan: The Edge of Everythingwill be available to stream this Thursday on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland. On Friday, the documentary will open in select cinemas for audiences nationwide.
The premiere was held at Odeon Luxe West End (Leicester Square) and attendees included Ronnie O’Sullivan, the film’s subject and the world’s number oneprofessional snooker player. He has won the World Snooker Championship seven times, a record he holds jointly with Stephen Hendry, who was also in attendance tonight alongside fellow professional snooker players Jimmy White and Judd Trump.
O’Sullivan was joined by his daughter Lily, his son Ronnie Jr, his mother Maria, and his partner, the actress Laila Rouass. Other stars from the world of sport at the exclusive event included Executive Producer and Studio 99 Co-Founder David Beckham, alongside his son, Cruz Beckham.
Fellow footballing legends Ian Wright and Alan Shearer also walked the carpet, as well as The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood who features in the film. Other famous faces included journalist Alastair Campbell, his comedian daughter Grace Campbell, photographer Mary McCartney and the film’s director Sam Blair.
Following the film, journalist Alastair Campbell moderated a Q&A discussion between Ronnie O’Sullivan and David Beckham, which was streamed to over 85cinemas across the UK and Ireland as part of a one-night-live premiere screening.
This new feature length documentary, from acclaimed filmmaker Sam Blair, explores how one of the most revered and accomplished British sporting heroes is able to function at the highest level despite a constant battle with his inner demons. The film focuses on understanding Ronnie’s genius, illuminating his past through never-before-seen archive family footage and charts his rise to fame from his early teens and the mental challenges he has overcome in the pursuit of perfection.
Featuring intimate and revealing interviews with Ronnie O’Sullivan and some of his closest family, friends and competitors – including Damien Hirst, The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, snooker legends Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry – Ronnie O’Sullivan: The Edge Of Everything is a character study of a genius in action.
The film is directed by Sam Blair (Make Us Dream, Keep Quiet, Maradona ‘86), and edited by Sam Blair and Paul Monaghan.
