British ultrarunning athlete and ultrarunning coach Robbie Britton has long been regarded as one the generation’s finest home-grown Ultrarunners and has recently grabbed the long-standing British 24-hour record in Turin that has stood since 1982.
David Dowdle held the British Record of 274.5km (170 miles) for over 40 years. However, this wasn’t Britton’s first attempt to take the 24-hour record from him. Over the past decade, Britton has tried several times to beat the record and finally completed it on 26th February 2023 with 277km.
In recent years, the original World Record held by David Dowdle was surpassed by the likes of Greek ultramarathoner Yiannis Kouros, considered one of the greatest ultrarunners of all time. Aleksandr “Sania” Sorokin has also twice surpassed the 300km mark.
However, no British athlete had beaten Dowdle’s record, and Britton was eager to change that.
“Parco Ruffini in Torino is by far my favourite park in the world. I’d imagine it’s got some charm, but it’s mainly because of what’s gone down.
