Race Across Scotland® is a 215-mile ultra-marathon following one of Scotland ‘s great trails – The Southern Upland Way.

The race starts at Portpatrick harbour, it’s a beautiful location for a start line, right on the coast with the Scottish flag flying in the background. We also use Portpatrick Village Hall for registration, which is open to runners on Friday evening and again on Saturday morning before the race. There’s always a great buzz in the lead up to RAS, nervous excitement from most runners and the chit chat about who the ones to watch for the lead are.

2022 had a field of top runners, a few of whom had done races with GB Ultras previously and finished in podium positions, for many the goal is just to finish but there’s always a few who have their eye on a course record. It’s always interesting to watch how each individual prepares to take on the race, whatever the goal.

6am Saturday 13th August the bagpiper played as the runners head off up the steps from the harbour and along the coastal path at the start of the Southern Upland Way.

The many volunteers we had for the event dispersed to their allocated locations ready to support the runners on their epic journey across Scotland. The Race Was On.
