Beyond the Ultimate Race Series have today launched their brand-new Mountain Ultra, a 5-day race through one of the largest and least explored mountain ranges in the world, the Tian Shan Mountains in Kyrgyzstan.
This uniquely tough race will see competitors take on 200km of technical mountain trail, cover over 9000m of ascent, reach a peak altitude of 3900m and being a self-sufficient event, carry all of their clothing, food, and safety equipment with them throughout.
Race Director Kris King said of the race, ‘Since I started with Beyond the Ultimate Race Series in 2015, I have wanted to design a world class mountain race and have been searching for the right home for it. In Kyrgyzstan we’ve found that home.’
Kris added, ‘The Tian Shan mountains are a perfect fit for our ethos of racing in less-travelled areas, among breath-taking scenery, in environments that would challenge any athlete. This will be our toughest race yet.’
The Tian Shan range stretches over 2,500km from Uzbekistan in the west to China in the east. It boasts summits of 7,500m and is home to the largest glaciers outside the poles.
The Mountain Ultra completes the Beyond the Ultimate Global Race Series, joining the Jungle Ultra in the Peruvian Amazon, the Ice Ultra in the Swedish Arctic, and the Desert Ultra in the Namib Desert in a series of ultra’s set in the world’s most stunning and challenging environments.
