Munro Round ‘Fastest Known Time’ – Donnie Campbell

“I’ve got plenty more left in the tank, let’s see how much I can empty it.”

Donnie Campbell, Scottish Munro FKT holder.

In 2020, Scottish mountain and ultrarunning legend Donnie Campbell took on the Munro Round, all 282 of the 3000 feet + (914.4m+) mountains in Scotland.  Donnie would come face to face with 1,426 km of running with 121,709m of ascent and it would also involve cycling 1,252km and ascending a further 18,683m on a bike.

Donnie caught up with Ultrarunner Magazine to tell us about how he prepared for his Munro Round and the challenges he faced along the way to set a new Fastest Known Time (FKT) in an astonishing time of 31 days, 23 hours and 2 minutes, a remarkable 7 days faster than the previous record.

About Donnie

Growing up on the Isle of Skye was really special and I ran to keep my fitness.   I’ve always had the competitive drive from a young age and played Shinty for Skye Camanachd, representing Scotland at under 18 level before joining the Royal Marines.
