Test and Review by Sarah Woodiwiss
I have reviewed these tasty Organic Oats and Dates Energy Bars by Moon Valley Earth Plant Food on my recent long runs and hikes on behalf of Ultrarunner Magazine and myRaceKit in the following flavours Cardamon, Apple and Cinnamon, Lemon and Ginger and Chocolate and Sea Salt.
I have to say that I was a little unsure at first I have tried many energy bars on my running journey and some have been left rolling around in my mouth for some time and are hard to digest but I was pleasantly surprised.
“Firstly, the texture was soft and broke away easily from the bar with no heavy chewing required which is great when you need to get your energy fast on the trails. Then I was also surprised at how easy I was able to chew and swallow the bar ensuring my snack time didn’t take up valuable moving time on the run.”
The variety of flavours kept things interesting my favourite was the lemon and ginger with the chocolate and sea-salt in second place. The flavours were subtle but enough of a punch to wake up your taste buds when on a long run.
“The bars are slim and light easy to pack in your ultra-pack and provide nutrition for a day on the go. I found that the bars were easy to digest and gave me no hassle in the digestive department which for me is the trickiest thing to manage when introducing new foods to my training plan.”
I tested the bars on long runs so felt I gave them fair opportunity to upset my tummy but they performed well and I completed long runs using them as my main energy source and felt topped up and didn’t get hungry.
“I loved the fact that they are organic too so doing their bit for the planet which I like to consider when choosing all food products.”
I would definitely purchase these products again to pop in my ultra bag and for when I know i’m going to have a busy day on the go at work.
