Keela Prosport Jacket – Test and Review

I’m wearing the new Prosport jacket from Keela and boy am I glad it has great windproof protection! The icy windchill is cutting today so the zip up to the chin and mouth (plus the hood) is a lifesaver. If you haven’t heard of Keela, they’re an outdoor clothing company based on the East coast of Scotland – the perfect place to test outdoor garments for the changeable British weather!

I’ve been wearing the jacket for over a month now in January and February. It’s not insulated but does have a thicker 2-layer hard shell that provides an excellent job at keeping you warm as you run (whilst still feeling soft and lightweight). And due to its System Dual Protection condensation is minimal. I never feel too hot even with two thin base layers on underneath. I can always open the underarm zips for extra ventilation if I need to. Additionally, when I’m walking or hiking it’s warm enough as long as I have a couple of thicker, warm layers on underneath. I know that the rain isn’t going to get through as it’s ultra waterproof (the raindrops just slide off!) and the storm flaps and wrist velcro can be adjusted to keep me watertight.

Another great aspect is its stretch capability. Pro-Stretch is a lightweight four-way stretch material which is both 100% breathable and 100% waterproof. While out running I could move and flex with no difficulty. It’s deliberately designed to have a close-fit. I’m a size 12/14 and ordered a 14 as I knew I would have at least a couple of thin layers on underneath it. It was a perfect fit particularly as I could use the toggles to tighten the shockcord at the hem of the jacket, thus keeping the heat in. It wasn’t too big either, I like the fact that I could easily wear a thick jumper underneath when I went to the coast walking with my family in North Wales.

The hood has a peak and is adjustable for a good fit. It definitely keeps the cold wind at bay and is also comfortable in use, although I might look a bit daft with my wooly hat on too! Unfortunately for me I really feel the cold so this jacket is actually a great versatile piece as I can adjust the layers I wear depending on the type of outdoor activity I’m doing.
I do love pockets too and it didn’t take me long to get used to their higher position. When I wasn’t running or taking a breather it was handy to stuff my hands in if necessary, and extremely handy for my keys and phone. They didn’t jangle around or annoy me, in fact I barely noticed I had them on me which is another bonus. You get another chest pocket inside too.

Lastly I really like the Berry colour. The Prosport jacket has a clean, minimal design so the colour really pops. Keela’s focus is on making their fabric technology work in the harshest of conditions and environments. There’s a reason why Keela supply the Emergency Services, including Rescue Teams and it’s firmly down to their innovative design of products that they are able to withstand anything the elements can throw at them! After wearing this jacket I can definitely trust it to do this whilst giving me the movement I need to run in.

Is it really waterproof?
