The Contest Gore T-shirt is an athletic, quick-drying running t-shirt designed to feel invisible. The incredibly lightweight t-shirt is super breathable and comfortable, which was excellent when I wore it in the last flash of hot weather.
Coming in fireball red, yellow, purple, white, army green and black, this t-shirt is marketed as a daily running t-shirt created for the average everyday runner. From 5km to 150km, this t-shirt would suit anyone desiring the feeling of a no-tshirt.
Sometimes, when it’s boiling, I prefer to run in a sports bra; however, when wearing a pack, I would come away with friction burn on my spine no matter how tight the bag was or how much body glide I put on.
I was looking for a thin t-shirt that could inhibit some friction while keeping me calm and fresh in muggy weather. This T-shirt fits all these queries and more.
Running in both male and female shapes, the t-shirt provided a snug fit that would prevent friction while running, yet it was breathable that I never felt extremely sweaty, which I know adds to rashes.
The shirt weighs just 57 grams, with GORE explaining their quick-drying technology “reduces sweat cling to keep you fresh, dry and focused on your run.” It is made from polyester, adding to its featherweight build; at first, this made me nervous on the first wear, as I was convinced the material would tear or break at the seams.
However, I was thrilled to be proven wrong. The construction provides a stable but stretchy feel that moves with my body. I feel hugged by the material but not constricted. The top can be worn over base layers and may provide another layer without feeling bulky in the colder months.
After washing, the shirt remains feeling light and fresh, drying instantaneously. I think the shirt would be great folded into a pack as an extra shirt for longer races, as its lightness won’t add any bulkiness.
Overall, this t-shirt is a fantastic addition to my plethora of running clothes. GORE has provided a t-shirt that is unnoticeable, allowing me to focus less on how hot and sweaty I feel and more on my running form and speed.
