For the first time ever at a GB Ultras Event, there were several exceptional records broken, including overall positions in both the 50 and 100-mile courses, along with new course records.
On the 8th of June, Ultra Scotland took place, featuring both a 50-mile and 100-mile route on the Southern Upland Way. The route takes in wonderful trails at the Daer Reservoir, Three Brethren and St Mary’s loch.
100-Mile Course Records Broken
In the 100-mile route, both the male and female records were broken by two incredibly hard-working and gifted runners.
First Place Male Richard Goldsworthy finished in the early morning hours in 20 hours and 20 minutes, taking an astonishing 2 hours off the previous course record.
The second male place went to Rory Campbell in 23 hours and 42 minutes with the third male place going to Graham Johnston in 27 hours and 45 minutes.
In the women’s race, Swiss athlete Rebecca Hormann reigned supreme, smashing the previous women’s record by an incredible 5 hours, coming in 24 hours and 19 minutes.
This means that the overall top 3 positions featured a female athlete.
The second-place female went to Carol Newman, who is a veteran GB Ultras podium finisher, coming in at 27 hours and 13 minutes. Kim Buckley finished the podium for the 100 miles with 27 hours 46 minutes.

50-Mile Race sees Exceptional Athletes
The 50 Mile Race saw some incredible athletes take on 50 miles of the Southern Upland Way. Scott Brown took first place men in 9 hours 53 minutes. Scott Brown is no stranger to the route, having won the Race Across Scotland in 2022, The 100-Mile Ultra Scotland Course in 2023 and now the 50-Mile Course in 2024.
He said: “Delighted to win not only the Ultra Scotland 50 on Saturday, but it then meant I’ve now won all three of the GB Ultra Scotland Distances on that route in consecutive years. I’m really happy with it.
“It’s always a super experience. The staff and volunteers put on from start to finish, and it’s great to be a part of it during race week. Spending time with all the runners before the race and after was awesome.
“I coached multiple runners to complete both the 50 and 100 milers at the weekend so that was also great to see them all have great races and finish strong. Thanks to all the GB Ultras community for the love, kudos and support as always.”
Scott was followed by Ollie Goddard in 10 hours, and 14 minutes. Gary Pawson finished the men’s podium in 10 hours and 43 minutes.
In the Women’s race, Jill Mykura took the new female record in 10 hours and 40 minutes, making her 3rd place overall. Second place Female went to GB Ultras veteran Kelly Marie Staunton in 11 hours 35 minutes. Tanya Shields finished the women’s podium in 12 hours 24 minutes.
