Finlay Wild reclaims Tranter’s Round Record

“I could never have run that hard without Jack’s record to try and beat.”

Finlay Wild, in a remarkable feat, has reclaimed his Tranters Round Record from Jack Kuenzle, setting a new FKT in an astonishing time of 8 hours, 27 minutes and 53 seconds.

This was not the first time Wild attempted this record, with attempts in 2020 and 2022. His 2022 record of 8 hours 52 minutes was beaten within 24 hours by American Athlete Jack Kuenzle in 8:38:23. This is the third time he has broken the record (1st June 2024), having done so previously in 2020 (9 hours 5 seconds) and 2016 (10 hours 15 minutes).

On his Strava, named as ‘Alien Resurrection’ following Kuenzle’s 2022 Strava route named ‘Alien vs Predator’ Wild posted: “My best ever run. Perfect conditions. Solo and unsupported.”

The Tranters Round is a 58km route where, in a 24-hour period, you visit the summits of 18 Munros (Scottish peaks over 3,000ft high) in the Lochaber region of Scotland.

Wild continued: “The endgame was gloriously difficult: my legs were just the right side of cramping, my nose was bleeding, rocks in my shoes, but I was able to access something extra, some level of focus that I’ve rarely if ever experienced.

“Bonked while driving home, all good after some food. About 10 mins off Jack Kuenzle’s record and a 25min PB

“Only got about 3 mins ahead of Jack in the Mamores but then felt able to push on in second half (lots of endurance training and longer running this year) in contrast to last October when I attempted and was 15mins faster than Jack at end of Mamores but then lost it in second half – partly due to weather crapping out, but also didn’t have the endurance (bailed).

“I could never have run that hard without Jack’s record to try and beat.”

Finlay Wild holds other FKT records, including the unsupported Paddy Buckley Round, unsupported Ramsay Round and the supported Welsh 3000’s.
