Women’s Black Diamond Alpenglow Pro Hoody test & review
Like many others, my washing basket is always full to the brim with running gear! The situation is even worse throughout the winter months where extra kit is needed, and it’s guaranteed to get muddy fast. Layers are the way forward for me, if I can get a few runs out of something before it needs to hit the laundry pile then great! That’s why I was delighted to be asked to test out the new Alpenglow Pro Hoody from Black Diamond – who doesn’t need another essential layer?
The hoody is stretchy, feels soft to touch and fits comfortably. Size wise, I’d say it’s generous in a good way and perfect for wearing over base layers and technical tees (I’m a UK 8 and went for a size small). My favourite feature is the thumb loops that sit seamlessly over thin gloves – helping to keep the wind chill out whilst you’re moving. As spring arrives and we ditch the waterproof jackets, I imagine the hoody will remain a firm favourite as a go-to, easy to wear extra layer that I can carry with me on my adventures – I also love that it’s made of UPF 50+ fabric for ultimate sun coverage. It’s lightweight and packs away neatly into my running vest.
Another great feature of the Alpenglow Pro Hoody fabric is that it has added GTT’s revolutionary Empel™ Technology, an environmentally friendly PFC-free water-repellent finish, which is ideal when you regularly get caught out in the rain in the mountains – like me! The elasticised hood frames your face and works well to keep you extra dry underneath a heavier layer. If you’re popping out for a short run, there’s an easy access zippered pocket on the chest, perfect for keeping your keys safe or storing other valuables. In conclusion, the Alpenglow Pro Hoody is a great addition to any active person’s wardrobe whether you’re running, hiking or climbing.

Review by The Running Nomads for Ultrarunner Magazine.
The Black Diamond Alpenglow Pro Hoody offers ultimate sun coverage as well as water resistance for mountain missions with unpredictable weather. Featuring UPF 50+ fabric, we’ve also added GTT’s revolutionary Empel™ Technology, an environmentally friendly PFC-free water-repellent finish that is superior in performance compared to any other C-6, C-8, or C-0 DWR. The Alpenglow Pro also sports a ¼ zip opening for regulating body temperature, HeiQ Pure underarm mesh panels for extra breathability, a concealed chest pocket, thumb-loops, and an over-the-helmet compatible hood, making this hoody an essential layer from the desert to the alpine.
