Andy Berry has been an Ultrarunner since 2016 and has recently completed the winter Tranter’s Round in the highlands of Scotland.
The route starts and finishes at the Glen Nevis youth hostel with an ascent of 5400m over a distance of 59km. The trail navigates through the glorious ridges of the Mamores, the Grey Corries, the Aonachs, Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis. It is called the Tranter’s Round after it was first completed in 1964 by Phillip Tranter.
In January, Andy Berry broke the record for the winter run of the round, clocking in 59km in 13 hours, 45 minutes and 18 seconds. It is quite an incredible achievement, especially in the adverse winter conditions. However, Berry has described the challenge as “some of the most intense but the most fun you can have running on the British Isles.”
Berry first did the Bob Graham Round soon after he started ultrarunning seven years ago and then has done a wide variety of ultra running races in both summer and winter. The Bob Graham Round is a 66-mile classic challenge that takes in the 42 highest peaks in the Lake District. Andy has also completed numerous other races and challenges since then.
“Last year I did the Paddy Buckley Round in May and got frustratingly close to Finley Wilds time,” he said.
