Not every ultra takes place on the hills. In fact, some of them are flat. We sat down with Laura, the Assistant Race Director for GB Ultras who talked us through the Glasgow to Edinburgh ultra marathon that took place this year.
Can you tell us about the event?
The event is a Glasgow to Edinburgh ultra marathon. It’s a 56 miles ultra starting at the Riverside museum in Glasgow; following the River Kelvin, Forth and Clyde Canal, Union Canal and the Water of Leith all the way through to Edinburgh. It finishes at the Saughton Sports Complex with 7 checkpoints along the way. That sums it up in a little nutshell.
And it’s different from others because it’s flat…
Yes it’s different to most of our ultras, it’s flat for the full 56 miles. There’s a slight hill at Falkirk Wheel which I think a lot of runners are quite pleased to see. It’s about halfway, but it is the smallest of hills. It’s a canal towpath and flat the whole way.
