Chester Marathon and Chester Ultra 50 winner Michael Young caught up with Ultrarunner Magazine this week to discuss his running journey, his transition from marathon to Ultramarathon, heart rate, coaching and the benefits of training on tired legs!
Back story…
“My journey into the sport of running was not born from body confidence concerns or health consciousness, as is more typically the motivator behind why people take up running. I laced up for the first time around three years ago because I did not want to buy any new clothes!
To say it is easy would be a massive understatement.
“I had started to gain a little weight, and none of my clothes would fit anymore. I did not want to purchase new stuff, one size up, so I decided to start running and lose the weight instead”.
