It takes me a while to warm up particularly in the colder months so I always need an extra base layer or two when out running. And we all know that having a good base layer is imperative to keep you warm, whilst also being breathable. So how did I get on with the Merino round neck top by Keela.
It was breathable and it wicked away sweat well. I didn’t feel wet or cold whilst out on a run, just a bit damp several miles in. Plus I was making my way along some hilly sections so working up a much justified sweat!
It’s 210gsm Merino material is light and soft to touch, I really like the purple stitching on the seams for a pop of colour – it stands out from my other base layers. The fit is true to size. It wasn’t tight and felt loose and comfortable. The colourful flat seams didn’t rub on my skin either.
During several runs it didn’t constrict my movement at all. It was loose and stretchy enough, yet still felt like a second skin – which was really important. On a couple of very cold winter days I layered it underneath another top and a jacket and it kept me warm enough without getting too hot. For extra icy cold days I’d probably go for a thicker material, but it’s still the ideal running top for layering.
“Merino wool naturally resists odours, making it the perfect base layer.”
After a couple of runs I gave the top a wash – it didn’t smell particularly whiffy btw. It washed well and due to the lightness of the fabric it dried super-quick and was ready to wear again for the next day.
After a month of testing, I really liked the KEELA merino top. It acts as a great base layer, keeping me warm but not too hot when running due to trapping the warmth where necessary. I love the soft, lightweight feel of the material too.
